Uber Teen Accounts: Another Tool for Busy Families
Between school, sports practices, after-school activities, jobs, tutoring and time with friends, keeping teenagers moving can sometimes feel like a full-time job. A partnership between National PTA and Uber is helping families learn about another transportation option designed specifically for teens.
Uber Teen Accounts allow parents or guardians to invite teens ages 13–17 to create a specialized Uber account connected to the family profile. Teens can then request their own rides, while parents maintain supervision through their Uber app.
Safety features are built directly into teen rides. Parents receive notifications and can follow the trip in real time from pickup to destination. Teen rides also include PIN verification to help ensure the teen enters the correct vehicle, RideCheck™ to identify unusual stops or route changes, and access to Uber’s in-app safety tools. Teen riders are also matched with highly rated, experienced drivers.
For busy families, this may provide added flexibility when schedules overlap—such as getting a student home from practice while a parent is still at work or transporting a teen to an activity when another child needs to be somewhere else.
Through their partnership, National PTA and Uber are working together to educate families about teen transportation safety and responsible use of Uber Teen Accounts.
