Many families use e-bikes and e-scooters for transportation, recreation, or both. If your family owns or uses one of these devices, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) offers helpful information about safely purchasing, charging, storing, and maintaining them.
The NFPA safety flyer and webpage remind families to:
Use the battery and charger designed for the device
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions
Avoid charging a battery after it is fully charged
Watch for excessive heat, swelling, leaking, unusual odors, smoke, or other warning signs
Keep devices and batteries away from exits and materials that can catch fire
This information is being shared strictly as a family-safety resource and does not express a position for or against e-bikes or e-scooters.
