Melissa Miller- President
Melissa Miller is the proud parent of two sons. Her PTA journey started as Box Tops Chairperson, 15 years ago. As OCCPTA President, her goal is to provide support for local units and encourage advocacy for our students. Being involved in PTA has been a truly a rewarding experience. She is excited to usher in a productive 17/18 year with the support of dedicated board members, strong local units, and the community.
Kanisha Jones- 1st Vice President of Leadership
Kanisha Jones is the 1st VP of Leadership for OCCPTA and Vice President of Three Points Elementary PTA. She and her husband have 3 amazing children. She had an eventful experience as a local unit President. Kanisha looks forward to the wonderful opportunity to serve the children and families here in Orange County. As the 1st VP of Leadership, her task is to work with our local units and assist them with any issues or concerns and strive to have them become a cohesive group. She also oversees the task of Fall and Spring Training for our units.
Sylvia Baer- 2nd Vice President of Organization
Sylvia Baer is the 2nd Vice President of OCCPTA with the responsibility of overseeing the organizational aspects of OCCPTA. She previously taught in Orange County for 6 years and resigned to become a stay at home of two boys.She is currently gainfully employed as a Quality Specialist. Sylvia is the current President for Conway Elementary PTA. This year we hope to continue to foster family engagement with the Back to School celebration along with other events to bring out families and local PTA/PTSA units to build high morale within OCCPTA and the community. We hope to encourage healthy eating habits and a healthy lifestyle for our children by supporting fitness programs. Towards the end of the year, it is her responsibility to coordinate the Awards Banquet to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our local PTA/PTSA units. She is also excited to recognize the hard-working students that will be awarded scholarships from OCCPTA.
Valerie Radcliffe- 3rd Vice President of Education
Valerie Radcliffe is 3rd VP of Orange County Council of PTA/PTSA. She has been an active PTA member since 2002 and OCCPTA Board Member since 2011. Valerie fiercely advocates for equality in education and children’s rights. She has a valuable reference for PTA information. As Vice President of Education, she will look forward to engaging our members for legislative and educational perspective for OCCPTA to review. Valerie lives in Mount Dora with her husband Joshua and her four children.
Reyna DeJesus- Treasurer
Reyna grew up in Boston, MA, and has been a Florida resident for five years. She has a Bachelors degree in Psychology and an Associate in Accounting from Hesser College, of New Hampshire. Currently, she specializes in tax preparation working with H&R Block for the past eleven years and employed by Jet Blue Airlines. Reyna’s eldest daughter recently started her tour of duty in the US Navy. She is also the proud parent of middle and elementary school students. Her volunteer involvement has been with Andover Elementary PTA as a Committee Chairperson, and she actively volunteers with the American Red Cross serving on the Disaster Action Team (DAT).
Wendy Birket- OCCPTA Secretary Legislative Chairperson
Wendy Birket studied learning psychology and taught English in Sri Lanka before completing a masters degree in Real Estate and Urban Planning at the University of Florida. Since then, she has combined her interests in child development and public policy, serving as PTA VP of membership and volunteerism for two years, SAC chair for two years, and legislative chair for two years at her children’s elementary school while also serving as a curriculum coordinator for teachers in the school garden.
Professionally she worked as a residential realtor, Right of Way administrator and substitute teacher. She is now serving her second year as Legislative Chairperson for Orange County Council of PTA/PTSAs. Wendy is passionate about children’s access to teachers and experiences that develop a lifetime love of learning. When not reading up on current events, Wendy can usually be found singing and dancing with 1st graders or hanging out with her own three girls, ages 12, 11 and 9. Wendy is married to Steve Birket of Birket Engineering, who is willing to listen to it all.
Alexis Plummer- Health & Wellness Chairperson
Alexis Plummer is an outstanding 2nd-grade teacher for OCPS and fitness enthusiast. She is looking forward to sharing her love of working out and healthy food with everyone. Alexis established a successful Fit Club for her elementary school. Being able to start a Fit Club and watch the children meet their fitness objectives was one of her most fulfilling achievements. Her hope is to help establish volunteer lead fitness programs through PTA. She is also excited to assist our local units with developing health and wellness initiatives for their respective units. These efforts will help our children lead a healthy lifestyle.
Andrea Michalak -East/ South Regional Advisor
Andrea Michalak is the Regional Advisor for the east and south areas of Orange County. She is the proud mom of three amazing children! Andrea is an experienced and dedicated teacher at Timber Springs Middle School. She is currently the Vice President of Timber Springs Middle PTSA and has extensive experience and training for PTA/PTSAs. We are excited to have her assisting our Local Units in achieving their goals! She is an advocate for all of our students and teachers!! She appreciates visiting new places and loves traveling in her spare time.
Tracy Strecker- North/ West Regional Advisor
Tracy is the proud wife of a firefighter and blessed mom of a high school golfer. She has been a dedicated PTA leader for over six years and is the past PTSA President of Piedmont Lakes Middle School. Her goal as a Regional Advisor for local units is to support PTA leaders, assist in growing PTA/PTSA’s and advocate for the needs of our students.
Amy Morales- Family Engagement Chairperson
Amy Morales is the Family Engagement Chairperson and previous PTA President of Riverdale Elementary School. She is also the proud parent of four lovely children and supportive husband.
Melanie Williams- Membership Chairperson
A resident of East Orange County, Melanie is married with four boys. She is an Author and an Independent Business Owner. Previously, Melanie served as a diplomat in the Jamaican Foreign Service in Bonn, Germany, and at the Mission to the United Nations in New York, NY. She is an active member of the Southside Church of Christ in Orlando, serving with the Youth Ministry, Women’s Ministry, and other outreach ministries. Over the years, her involvement in her children’s schools has led her to serve on the Executive Board of four schools. Her positions range from Committee Chairperson, Recording Secretary, Vice President, and President. Currently, she is the Immediate Past President, and 1st Vice President of Legacy Middle School; and 2nd Vice President at University High School. She has served several terms as Chairperson of the School Advisory Council at the Andover Elementary and the Arbor Ridge K-8 schools. As the recently appointed Membership Chairperson for the Orange County Council of PTAs, her overall goals are to encourage and increase membership among all Orange County schools, public and non-public; and to ensure that all County Council obligations are met by local units.
Paris McKnight- Student Rep
Paris McKnight is the OCCPTA Student Representative. She is a Middle School student and an active member of the Chess Club, Student Council, and BETA club. Paris is also an active member of the National Junior Honor Society. After joining Martial Arts almost 8 years ago, her dedication, ambition, and hard work paid off, and she was promoted to a training instructor. She aspires to use her Student Representative positions to assist other students to build everyday values that will help them be an asset to both their school and community. She believes in making sure that everyone has a learning environment where they are comfortable and feel supported.
BrookeLynn Radcliffe- Student Involvement Chairperson
BrookeLynn Radcliffe is am OCPS senior and the Student Involvement Chair for Orange County Council of PTA/PTSA 2017-2018. She is a former member of the Florida PTA student involvement committee and has been an active PTSA member since 2011. BrookeLynn advocates for empowering students to become active participants in the path of their education. BrookeLynn plans to attend London Metropolitan University in 2018. BrookeLynn lives in Mount Dora with her parents and three siblings.
Greg Mellowe- Parliamentarian
Greg Mellowe is the OCCPTA Parliamentarian and a former Edgewater High PTSA President. He has an extensive knowledge of Robert Rules of Order and parliamentary procedure. He is a devoted husband and proud father of two daughters.
Pam Carson- OCPS Liaison
Pam Carson is the OCPS Liaison to OCCPTA. She is also the Senior Manager of Community Resources for Orange County Public Schools.
Twanna Scroggins- OCPS Foundation Liasion
Twanna is serving her sixth year as Foundation for Orange County Schools liaison to the Orange Council of PTA/PTSAs. She provides valuable insight and assistance with events district/fundraising information. Twanna joined the Foundation for Orange County Public Schools June 2005. She has 30 years in the non-profit sector – including ten at the Marion-Grant County Chamber of Commerce where she was the office manager/bookkeeper and SCORE coordinator, eight as the executive administrator at Healthy Community Initiative of Greater Orlando. Her Foundation responsibilities include managing the Impact Teacher Grants and Teach-In programs, event coordinator for the Fore Our Schools Golf Tournament and website support. Twanna’s other volunteer interests include Read2Succeed volunteer tutor (since 2003), Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center event day volunteer (since 2012) and Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center event day volunteer (Fall 2017). She earned her associates degree from Indiana Business College. She has two children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Franklin Matucci- Principal Liaison
Mr. Matucci is the Principal of Zellwood Elementary School and the OCCPTA Principal Liaison. His years of experience as an educator and administrator are relied upon for the county council’s success. His ability to work as a team with the Board and assist local Principals with PTAs is a valuable resource for PTA.
